Toyota Safety Sense is Toyota’s active safety system. The system actively keeps everyone safe in dangerous situations. Toyota Safety Sense combines active safety systems that keep passengers and other road users safe. The system comes standard on many new Toyota models. We’ll examine each system in more detail.

Additionally, Toyota Safety Sense automatically applies the brakes if the driver doesn’t react in time. During daylight, the radar, camera, and laser sensor work together to detect cyclists on the road. If a collision is about to occur, the system automatically sends audible and visual signals to the driver.

Dynamic Radar Cruise Control

The new cruise control uses a radar mounted behind the Toyota logo and a windshield camera to measure the distance to the vehicle ahead of you. The system then automatically adjusts your speed and maintains a pre-set distance from the vehicle in front of you. This technology is also called full-speed-range DRCC. This way, it maintains the distance between you and the vehicle ahead and matches your speed to let you drive without any difficulty.

Lane Departure Alert

The windshield camera acts like your guardian, sounding a signal if you unintentionally drift out of your lane. The system also features steering assist. Toyota Safety Sense also provides gentle corrective steering if the driver takes no action.

The Lane Departure Alert system technology also includes road-edge detection. Road-edge detection scans the boundary between the asphalt and the road edge. The road edge could be grass, dirt, or any curb. It keeps the driver in their lane. Additionally, if the system detects the driver hasn’t taken any corrective action, it automatically begins providing gentle corrective steering.

Automatic High Beams

The windshield camera can detect the headlights and taillights of vehicles ahead of you. The system automatically switches between low and high beams. The system operates at speeds above 25mph. This way, you can drive with clear visibility throughout the night.

Lane Tracing Assist

Lane Tracing Assist works when Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) is enabled and lane markings are visible. Lane Tracing Assist uses vehicles ahead of you or lane markings to keep you centered in your lane, thanks to Toyota Safety Sense.

Additionally, while Lane Tracing Assist is active, the Emergency Driving Stop System continuously monitors the driver. If the driver doesn’t respond, or doesn’t respond to warnings to regain control, EDSS can bring the vehicle to a complete stop in a safe location.

Road Sign Assist

Road Sign Assist uses a forward-facing intelligent camera to detect road signs. Road signs include speed limits, stop signs, do-not-enter signs, and other road signs. Toyota Safety Sense automatically displays these on the Multi-Information Display (MID).
