Standard Die Sets and Their Dimensions

Standard Die Sets and Their Dimensions

Die sets have been standardized in various shapes and sizes. Standard die sets are divided into two main groups.

  1. Open die sets,
  2. Guide-post (pillar) die sets.

Open Die Sets

An open die set consists of the lower die shoe, the upper die shoe, and the die shank.

Guide-Post (Pillar) Die Sets

A guide-post die set consists of the lower die shoe, the upper die shoe, the guide posts and bushings, and, for smaller die sets, the die shank.

Standard guide-post die set types have the following characteristics;

  1. The shapes of the lower and upper die shoes,
  2. The type and properties of the lower and upper die shoe material.
  3. The number of guide posts and bushings belonging to the die set,
  4. The mounting of the guide posts and bushings,
  5. The type of guide posts and bushings,
  6. Any additional components desired,
  7. The quality of the machined surfaces,
  8. The press type to be used with the die.
