What is a packing seal?
A packing seal (gland packing) is the part placed between two machine parts, one moving and one fixed, to provide sealing between them. It’s commonly used in places like pumps, faucets, and shaft bearings. Often, a rubber part similar to the rubber used for heat sealing on uPVC windows serves as the packing seal.
In other words, if you want force to pass through a machine part but don’t want fluid to pass through it, placing a packing seal in between is the logical solution. The alternative to a packing seal is, in fact, precision surface-finishing methods machined using extremely expensive processes. But even with this method, long-term sealing still can’t be guaranteed. A packing seal is a cheap and reliable method for sealing.
